Keynote: Larry Anderson

Larry Anderson is a retired Portland police officer who grew up in Northeast Portland and primarily worked in his North/Northeast community as a patrolman for twenty-eight years. He has been married to Renee for thirty years and they have two children –  daughter Kenya and son Kaleb.

He is a founding member of a racial reconciliation movement in Portland known as the Friday Morning Men’s Group, and recently took on the role of President and CEO of Friday Group Enterprises, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting business relationships in communities of color.

Adopted at birth, Larry’s parents brought him up as a member of Allen Temple CME Church where he served as an altar boy and sang in the youth choir. He was a superb athlete in grade school (his Sabin Bomber sports teams were city champions every year from fifth to eighth grade) and excelled on the basketball court in high school – first at Jefferson and then Grant. He earned a scholarship to a small college in Spokane where his team was named to the school’s Hall of Fame.

In addition to his years of community service as an officer on the street, Larry worked on the Gang Enforcement Team, ultimately rising to the level of a national and regional speaker focusing on the prevention of youth violence.
