Join us on Wednesday November 14th at 11:30am at the Portland Golf Club, to hear a remarkable story of courage and faith. Carl Wilkens was the only American who did not leave Rwanda when war and genocide broke out in 1994. Refusing US government evacuation orders, he remained by the side of his Rwandan friends and worked courageously to protect hundreds of children during the 90 days of tragedy.
Carl was featured in the PBS Frontline documentary, “Ghosts of Rwanda,” as well as in “The Few Who Stayed: Defying Genocide,” an American Radio Works documentary which aired on National Public Radio. He is the recipient of several humanitarian awards.
Carl and his wife Teresa, along with children Mindy, Lisa and Shaun, live in Spokane, Washington where they lead their on non-profit, World Outside My Shoes.
